Task-based language learning through language lab

Digital language lab software is considered as a promising avenue for teaching language and literature using technology-mediated methodologies and learning resources. Over the last decade, task based learning has been gaining a lot of popularity as it is a ground-breaking language teaching approach. Learning by doing is the principle behind this language teaching methodology adopted by language teachers and educators across the world.

The benefits of task based learning can be best achieved through the use of language lab software. By applying this teaching approach, students get meaningful, challenging and often real-life situations that demand language usages to complete it. Besides, it also helps students to get actively involved in the learning tasks in order to achieve the language goals set by the teacher. According to the task design, the fundamentals of language are reframed in a dependable and authentic communicative context and students are drawn out of the traditional grammar-translation learning approach into the sphere of active language learning. While the TGT method was repetitive and boring for students, activity/task- based learning provides better opportunity for students to engage in learning thereby making it more enjoyable and lively.

Since task-based teaching by its very features encourages the use of new modern digital technologies, students can involve effortlessly in doing things through creative actions rather than just reading language or literary materials in textbooks or hearing the lessons read by the teachers. Digital language laboratory helps teacher to set specific goals for students that require good interaction between the teacher and student. The gap that occurs in traditional language teaching can be bridged through TBLT and the teacher can give immediate feedback to students enriching the learning environment.
